Cages |
Cages should generally be no smaller than 2 feet deep by 2 feet wide by 3 feet high. (This is the minimum, the bigger the BETTER!) Many cages are a little smaller depth wise and much wider and taller. Height is the most important factor.. your little guys will climb, climb, climb.. and then jump! You alway want bars, mesh, something for them to cling to/climb on. This is why plastic/glass tanks/enclosures aren’t good. There isn’t enough airflow and nothing for the little ones to frolic about on! Just a few of the suggested cages are the Critter Nation (double stack) or All Living Things(double stack) small critter cage, Brisbane, Congo, Martin's cages and Prevue Pet Products Rat & Chinchilla Cage. We can show you other great cages as well if looking for other options.. Bar spacing on any cage must be 1/2 inch or less and powder coated over the metal
(any exposed metal can rust and cause UTIs). Below are what you need in your cage for your little ones! |
WheelsSAFE wheels are very important, sugar gliders need their exercise , even thought they can jump around the cage is not enough. They also help with stress and encourage play! Wheels you can get at pet stores are NOT safe for them, they can injure themselves or worse with the bars in the center, small splits in the plastic, ect! We use Raptor wheels and My Free Runner. They are the two main, well know, save wheel vendors.
Links to safe wheels below! ToysToys are amazing for your gliders to stimulate them with foraging, tail carrying and more! Make sure any toys you get are made with safety in mind, like the cage sets, bonding items, wheels, ect best to avoid places like Amazon, ebay, and most etsy (some approved vendors do use etsy) We highly advise these vendors, great customer service and their great quality, variety, and safe toys! Check out their pages to see available toys!
WaterFor Gliders for a water source a water bottle or water silo are the 2 best options. We personally use the water silo since we have found it easier to clean and our gliders prefer to lap the water. With the water you want it Fluoride free. Fluoride can dehydrate your glider. We get our gliders water from Walmart, Great Value brand.
Food DishesYou can use any metal, hard plastic, or ceramic dishes for food. A thing to look for is one that will not tip over easy as glider will hang onto the side or be all the way on the dish and no one likes a big food mess.

Cage setsCage sets are for gliders sleep (cage pouch, hammocks, ect) and for them to have places to play and glide from safely(hammocks, tunnels, vines ect). I make cage sets that are safe for your little ones. Most cage items you see for gliders are made from fleece (antipill or blizzard/polar) but there are some vendors like myself who have gone through testing to sew safe cotton/fleece sets. With glider items you want to stay away from places like Amazon, ebay, and most etsy stores(there are some vendors who do use etsy but not many who have done the testing) . Always look for someone who has gone through safety testing (AVL) so your little ones have safe items! You will want to keep an eye on your cage pouches still due to some gliders being chewers or diggers :) I am AVL (approved vendor) and have gone threw the testing for safety on The Glider Initiative, Vendorlist, Sugar Glider Fanatics, Roses, Glide-it-Forward, Sugar Glider Depot and more!
Bonding
Bonding is a great for you and your gliders!! Some forms of bonding time is tent time or glider proofing a bathroom or bedroom, bonding pouches, and bonding scarves!
With the tents some recommendations for tents are Sansbug or the link below at Amazon. With any tent you want to be sure they are NOT treated for mosquitos. Another form of bonding is using the scarves or bonding pouches. These like the toys, cage sets, and wheels you will want to go with an approved vendor. I do make these items as well at Sugar Glider Fleece N Treasures. |
